Upper Mesa Falls drops 114 feet in a single curtain of white water, making it one of Idaho’s most spectacular undammed waterfalls. Lower Mesa Falls, a mile downstream, tumbles 65 feet through a narrower basalt canyon. Both offer viewing platforms and interpretive trails, with Upper Falls featuring a visitor center and gift shop during summer months.
The scenic byway is paved and accessible to all vehicles, connecting Highway 20 to Highway 47 through Targhee National Forest. Snow typically closes the upper sections from November through May. Entrance fee required at Upper Falls. Lower Falls has a rougher access road but no fees.
Idaho's last major undammed waterfall spectacle
