Caribou-Targhee National Forest Island Park Dispersed Area
Scattered along Forest Road 294 and connecting two-tracks, these dispersed sites sit in lodgepole pine forest at 6,200 feet elevation. The area offers solid mountain views and cooler temperatures than the valleys below. Sites accommodate everything from tents to big rigs, though the best spots fill up during hunting season and summer weekends. Fire restrictions typically apply July through September.
Access via Kilgore Road from Highway 20, then Forest Road 294 for about 8 miles. Roads are gravel but suitable for any vehicle in dry conditions. Snow closes the area roughly November through May. No services or water — pack everything in and out.
