Croom Motorcycle Area Technical Loop
Central Florida's sand pit gauntlet
The Croom Motorcycle Area throws 2,600 acres of Central Florida’s nastiest sand at riders willing to test their mettle in the Withlacoochee State Forest. This isn’t your typical trail ride – the sugar sand here runs deep enough to swallow ATVs whole, and the technical single-track sections demand precise throttle control and momentum management. The main loop connects multiple trail systems including the infamous Blue Trail, where even experienced riders find themselves buried axle-deep in powdery sand that feels more like quicksand than dirt.
This is expert-level terrain that’ll humble overconfident drivers faster than Florida lightning. You need a capable machine – preferably something with paddle tires or aggressive sand treads – plus recovery gear, extra fuel, and plenty of water. Summer riding is brutal due to heat and humidity, so stick to cooler months from November through March. The payoff is pure technical skill building in some of the most challenging sand conditions you’ll find outside a desert, plus the satisfaction of conquering terrain that sends most riders packing.
