Quartz Creek Campground

Remote forest service campground on the Sterling Highway with excellent salmon fishing and bear viewing opportunities.

This 45-site campground sits along Quartz Creek where it meets Kenai Lake, offering prime salmon fishing from late June through August. The sites are well-spaced among mature spruce and hemlock, with most offering lake or creek views. Fire rings, picnic tables, and vault toilets throughout, plus a boat launch for lake access. Black bears are common — food storage regulations strictly enforced.

Located at Mile 45 of the Sterling Highway, easily accessible by any vehicle. The campground fills quickly during peak fishing season, especially weekends. Early morning and evening are best for fishing, and you’ll often see locals working the creek mouth. No hookups or showers, but drinking water is available from hand pumps.

Lakeside camping with world-class salmon fishing.
