This 15-mile paved loop cuts straight through the River of Grass, offering the most accessible wildlife viewing in the Everglades. The road is closed to private vehicles — you’re on foot, bike, or the park’s tram. Alligators line the canal year-round, and during dry season (December-April) the wildlife concentrations are insane. The observation tower at the halfway point gives you a 360-degree view over seemingly endless sawgrass.
Best visited early morning or late afternoon when animals are active and the heat’s manageable. Bring water — there’s zero shade out there and the sun reflects off the pavement like a furnace. Peak season crowds can be thick, but the loop’s long enough to spread people out. Entrance fee required.
