Ormiston Gorge Campground — Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park
Ormiston Gorge is one of the headline stops in Tjoritja (West MacDonnell) National Park, and the campground backs up to that country. Think towering red cliffs, ghost gums, and a deep waterhole at the gorge mouth. The camp is a proper developed one with toilets, showers, and drinking water, and it sits a short walk from the gorge and the start of the Ormiston Pound walk. It suits families and rigs of all sizes, and it’s a solid first night or last night on a Red Centre loop.
Access is via the sealed Namatjira Drive roughly 130 km west of Alice Springs, so no 4WD is needed to get in. Nights from May to August can drop near freezing, and summer days run brutally hot. April to September is the sweet spot. Parks NT manages the site, and booking rules, fees, and fire regulations change, so confirm with Parks NT before you roll in. Have a dirty day.
