Corin Dam Wall — Cotter River Reservoir Viewpoint and ACT High Country Gateway
Corin Dam is one of three dams on the Cotter River system that supplies Canberra’s water. The dam wall itself is a striking piece of mid-century civil engineering tucked into dense mountain ash and snow gum country at roughly 800 m elevation. The reservoir behind it — Lake Corin — backs up into forested gullies and on a clear morning reflects the surrounding ridgeline perfectly. For overlanders running Boboyan Road south from Tharwa, the dam wall access track is a natural checkpoint to confirm you’re on the right line before the country opens up toward the high plateau.
The access road off Corin Road is sealed to the dam wall viewing area. No camping permitted at the dam itself — this is ACT water catchment and access beyond the viewing point is restricted. Check ACT Parks closures before you go, especially after fire seasons when track gates get pulled shut with little notice.
