Camping Municipal de Fiambalá — Puna de Atacama Gateway Campground

Established Campground

Fiambalá’s municipal campground sits at the edge of town on the Río Fiambalá, shaded by tamarisk and poplar trees — a genuine oasis before or after the brutal high-altitude push toward Ojos del Salado and Paso Pircas Negras. The Termas de Fiambalá hot springs are only a few kilometers up the canyon, which makes this a logical rest-and-soak stop. Sites are basic: fire rings, picnic tables, toilets, and running water. Vibe is local and unhurried. Town services — fuel, food, mechanic, water top-off — are all within walking distance.

Access is paved all the way to the campground. This is your last civilized night before you climb into the Atacama volcanic corridor at elevation. Verify water and fuel in town before heading up toward Campo de Talampaya or beyond — resupply above here is zero. The campground sees more use in winter months (June–August) when the Seismiles route is most popular with serious 4WD expeditions.

Last green camp before the high Puna.
