Lake Sherwood Recreation Area Campground — Jefferson National Forest
Lake Sherwood sits inside Jefferson National Forest at roughly 2,700 feet in the Allegheny Mountain District, about 25 miles northeast of Lewisburg off WV-14. The campground wraps a quiet mountain lake with decent-sized sites, a boat launch, and enough tree cover to feel like wilderness without being buried in it. It’s a real campground — maintained sites, vault toilets, drinking water when the season’s open — not dispersed gravel flats. Fills up on summer weekends with lake anglers and tubers, so mid-week is your window.
Access is straightforward on WV-14 and Forest Road 14 — high-clearance isn’t required but gravel stretches reward a capable rig. Season typically runs May through October; water is shut off outside that window. Cell signal is essentially nonexistent. No hookups, no dump station — just a lake, pines, and the quiet end of the Greenbrier Valley.
Mountain lake basecamp deep in the Allegheny Highlands.
