Big Sandy Lodge Trailhead — Bridger Wilderness High Route Gateway

Point of Interest

Big Sandy Trailhead sits at the end of a long washboard dirt road south of Pinedale and delivers you to the southern edge of the Bridger Wilderness. From the parking area you’re looking straight at the Wind River Range — Haystack Mountain and the approach corridor toward the Cirque of the Towers. It’s a legitimate overlanding drive in its own right: the road crosses sagebrush flats, climbs through lodgepole, and ends at a classic mountain trailhead with big views and usually some dispersed camping activity nearby on Forest Service ground.

Access is via Fremont County Road 353 and then Forest Road 10023 — plan for roughly 20–25 miles of dirt from the pavement near Boulder, WY. Road can be deeply rutted in early season and after heavy rain; high-clearance is strongly recommended. No services at the trailhead. Best window is late June through September. Cell service is nonexistent once you leave pavement.
