Moreton Telegraph Station Campground — Cape York Track Northern Terminus
Moreton Telegraph Station sits near the northern end of the Telegraph Track corridor, making it a natural end-of-run camp for overlanders who’ve punched through Gunshot Creek, Nolan’s Brook, and the rest of the scrub. The station grounds are heritage-listed, and camping here puts you in the shadow of corrugated iron buildings that date back to the original overland telegraph line. Pit toilets on site, basic amenities only — bring everything you need. It fills up during the Cape York season (May–October) with a mix of 4WDs and tourers celebrating their northern run.
Access is via the Telegraph Track itself or the slightly more forgiving PDR (Peninsula Development Road) cutoff. Wet season (November–April) makes this entire region impassable. Check road conditions with the Cooktown or Coen depots before committing. No phone signal out here — satellite comms are the go-to.
End of the Track. Cold beer is still hours away.
