Keep River National Park — Escarpment Creek Flat Dispersed Camp
Keep River National Park sits right on the WA-NT border and is a legitimate stopover for rigs exiting the eastern Gibb River Road via Home Valley and heading toward Wyndham or on into the Northern Territory. The park is known for its Bungle Bungle-style beehive domes and red sandstone formations, and the creek flats along the main access track — particularly near Jarnem and Gurrandalng — offer flat, cleared ground used by self-sufficient travellers. No facilities, no shade structures, purely wild. You’re in sandstone gorge country with real wildlife pressure from saltwater crocs near any permanent water.
Access is via the Victoria Highway turnoff, sealed to the park boundary then dirt into the interior. 4WD recommended in the wet — which runs October to April and closes the park entirely. Dry season only (May–September). Fires are heavily restricted; gas cookers preferred. Carry all your water in. Park fees apply — no dispersed camping outside designated areas without warden knowledge, but creek flat spots near Jarnem Loop are well-established informal stops.
