Loreto Playa Campground — Bahía de Loreto Waterfront Camp

This is the go-to established camp for overlanders running the Transpeninsular through Baja California Sur. Set right on the malecon fringe of Loreto with views across to Isla del Carmen, you get flat dirt pads, basic palapa shade structures, and access to the Sea of Cortez. It’s a proper basecamp town stop — not a wilderness experience, but after a long day grinding the Sierra de la Giganta canyon roads, a real shower and a cold Pacifico two blocks away is hard to argue with. Loreto has fuel (Pemex on the main drag), groceries, and a mechanic or two who can handle rigs in real trouble.

Road in is paved right to the waterfront. Site fills up in winter (Dec–Feb) when snowbirds arrive from the US and Canada in force. Spring and fall are quieter. Summer heat is brutal — temps push past 105°F and humidity climbs hard. Cell signal is solid throughout town.
