Wadi Bani Khalid — Palm-Lined Wadi Pools North of the Wahiba Sands
Wadi Bani Khalid is a limestone gorge in the Eastern Hajar foothills, with spring-fed pools, date palms and a falaj running through the wadi bed. It sits roughly 35 km north of Bidiyah, so it makes a natural bookend to the Wahiba Sands crossing. Wild camping in the wadi is informal. Locals and overlanders sleep on the gravel flats and wadi-bed benches away from the main pool area, and some of those spots are well outside the developed zone. Don’t treat any of it as a guaranteed campsite. The pools are a day-use hotspot, and Fridays and public holidays bring crowds of Omani families.
Don’t camp inside a flash-flood channel. Check the sky and the upstream basin, because wadi floods in Oman are fast and unforgiving. Keep camp well clear of the pools and falaj, pack out all trash, and dress conservatively around the swimming area. Ask a local or the nearest police post about current overnight rules before you commit. Summer is brutally hot, so October to April is the sweet spot. Verify everything ahead of time.
Have a dirty day.
