Tynda City Tourist Campground — BAM Highway Western Terminus Basecamp
Tynda is the administrative heart of the BAM corridor and the logical launchpad for any overlander tackling the Siberian BAM Road east toward Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The city maintains a basic tourist campground and guesthouse compound on the southern edge of town, used by long-haul truck crews, rail workers, and the occasional expedition rig. Expect gravel pads, pit toilets, and intermittent water — nothing fancy, but it’s a roof and a flat spot before or after the taiga hammers you for days.
Access is straightforward via the federal A360 Amur Highway into Tynda. Season runs May through September — outside those months, frozen mud and extreme cold make camping impractical without serious expedition kit. Stock fuel and provisions here; resupply between Tynda and Fevralsk is thin. Verify current status locally — facilities at this level in Russia’s Far East change without notice.
BAM's capital — last real basecamp heading east.
