Small Forest Service campground at 10,000 feet elevation, tucked into the spruce and fir forest near the Continental Divide. Twelve sites total, most suitable for tent camping or small RVs — big rigs will struggle with the narrow, winding access road. Vault toilets and fire rings, but no water. Popular staging area for exploring the surrounding network of 4WD trails including connections to the Alpine Loop.
Access via Forest Road 578 from Highway 149, about 6 miles of decent gravel that gets rougher the last couple miles. Sites fill up quickly during peak summer season. Elevation means cool nights even in July — come prepared for temperature swings. Open roughly June through September depending on snow.
