Tonto National Forest FR 269 Dispersed Area

Free forest service dispersed camping along Forest Road 269, scattered among oak and pine above Cave Creek.

Multiple primitive camping spots along Forest Road 269 (Cave Creek Road) as it climbs into the Tonto National Forest northeast of Cave Creek. Sites range from pull-outs suitable for single vehicles to larger clearings that can handle groups. Most have fire rings built by previous campers, with decent spacing for privacy. No facilities — pack it in, pack it out.

Access via Cave Creek Road from town, turning to dirt after a few miles. High-clearance recommended for the better spots higher up the mountain. Popular with Phoenix locals on weekends. Fire restrictions often in effect April through June. Some sites offer views back toward the Valley.
