Talihina — US-271 Downtown Fuel and Ouachita Gateway Resupply

Point of Interest

Talihina sits at the western base of the Ouachita ridgeline on US-271 and serves as the practical launch point for anyone heading east into the Lonesome Pine Road corridor or up onto the Talimena Byway. You’ll find fuel stations, a Dollar General, and a handful of local options for food. The Choctaw Nation operates facilities in the area, and the town has a working-class, unhurried feel — no tourist traps, no gear shops, just a community that happens to sit at the doorstep of some of Oklahoma’s best backcountry driving.

Stock up here before going in. There’s nothing beyond Talihina heading east on the ridge roads that resembles a resupply point until you’re nearly into Mena, AR — roughly 54 miles. Water, snacks, fuel. Check your spare. The Ouachita National Forest Kiamichi Ranger District office is located nearby and worth a stop for current road conditions if it’s open.

Gateway town before the ridge swallows you.
