Rhossili Bay — Gower Peninsula Western Headland Viewpoint

Point of Interest

Rhossili sits at the far western end of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, overlooking a three-mile arc of sand backed by grass-covered dunes and the dramatic ridge of Rhossili Down. The tidal island of Worm’s Head juts out into the Bristol Channel from the headland — you can walk across at low tide, but the tide moves fast and people do get stranded. The National Trust-managed car park at the village end gives you the elevated view across the entire bay in one shot. Sunsets here facing west over the Atlantic are legitimately special.

The road into Rhossili village is narrow single-track Welsh lane for the last mile or two — manageable in a standard-width overland rig but not something you want to rush or meet a caravan on. Village facilities are basic: a café and NT visitor centre. Wider Gower exploration on the back lanes rewards patience and a vehicle that fits tight hedgerow roads.

Wales's finest Atlantic arc — worth every tight lane.
