Reggane Town Campground — Tanezrouft Track Northern Terminus Basecamp
Reggane is the de facto staging town for the Tanezrouft Track heading south toward Bordj Mokhtar. The municipal campground sits on the edge of town and is used almost exclusively by overlanders and trans-Sahara convoys preparing to drop into one of the most desolate corridors on the continent. Expect hard-packed sand and gravel ground, minimal shade, and a no-frills setup — a few basic toilet blocks, occasional water from a tap (verify before relying on it), and the occasional Algerian military checkpoint nearby. Capacity is loose; a dozen rigs can park without crowding. It gets busy during the Saharan shoulder seasons when convoy traffic stacks up waiting for permits or companions.
Access is straightforward — Reggane is reached via paved RN1 from Adrar, about 160 km to the north. The campground is not signposted prominently; ask at the gendarmerie or fuel station for directions. Southern zone travel permits are required before departure south — sort these in Tamanrasset or Adrar, not here. October through March is the viable window. Summer temperatures routinely exceed 50°C and the track is effectively impassable without serious preparation.
