Purnululu National Park — Ord River Plateau Track Dispersed Camp
This is as remote as it gets in the East Kimberley. The plateau track between Warmun (Turkey Creek) and Purnululu National Park threads through open spinifex savanna and ironstone flats, and there are recognised pull-off areas along the unsealed Turkey Creek Station Road where self-sufficient travellers camp overnight. No facilities, no shade structures — just red dirt, corrugated track, and a big Kimberley sky. Strictly a dry-season-only camp; track becomes impassable after wet season rain. Bring everything you need — the nearest fuel is at Warmun or the Purnululu visitor area.
High-clearance 4WD required — the track has creek crossings and loose rocky sections that will punish underprepared rigs. Total track is roughly 53 km from the Great Northern Highway turnoff. Cell coverage is essentially zero the entire run. Check in with Parks and Wildlife WA before departure and ensure you carry a PLB.
