Pine Barrens Carranza Memorial Fire Road Dispersed Area
A series of informal camping spots along the fire roads radiating out from the Carranza Memorial deep in Wharton State Forest. Classic Pine Barrens landscape — sandy soil, scrub pine, and that distinctive jersey silence broken only by the distant hum of the Parkway. Sites are basically wide spots in sandy fire roads, so pick your spot carefully to avoid getting stuck. Popular with dual-sport riders and the occasional overlander exploring South Jersey’s surprising backcountry.
Access via Carranza Road from Route 206, then follow the network of unmarked fire roads. Surface is deep sand in spots — air down and take it easy. No facilities, no water, no cell service. Fire restrictions often in effect during dry periods. Most sites can handle 2-3 vehicles max.
