Pigeon Hole — Victoria River Escarpment and Sandstone Pinnacle Viewpoint
Pigeon Hole is a named sandstone pinnacle and escarpment feature on the eastern edge of the Kimberley, visible from the Victoria Highway corridor as you push east toward Kununurra or loop back from the Gibb. The Victoria River here cuts through deep red sedimentary country, and the escarpment walls glow at dawn and dusk in a way that’ll stop you mid-drive. It’s an honest-to-goodness geological showstopper and a useful orientation landmark for anyone running the eastern end of the Gibb River Road circuit.
Access is straightforward off the Victoria Highway (NT-1) near the Victoria River Roadhouse. No 4WD required to get eyes on it — the main viewpoint is highway-adjacent — but the surrounding station country rewards those who push down the dirt. Best light is morning. Dry season only for any off-road side exploration; the Victoria River flats flood hard in the Wet.
