Pelly Crossing — Selkirk First Nation Village and Yukon River Staging
Pelly Crossing sits on the east bank of the Pelly River at Klondike Highway Mile 198, and it’s the only meaningful resupply between Carmacks and Stewart Crossing. The Selkirk First Nation Heritage Centre here is worth a few minutes — understated but real, with context on the river routes that indigenous people and early prospectors used long before any highway existed. There’s a gas station and small store. The Pelly River viewpoint from the highway bridge gives you a wide, braided floodplain view that frames how massive the drainage system actually is out here.
This is a direct staging point for the Dalton Range Road heading northeast toward Riddell River highlands. Fuel up here — it’s a long stretch in either direction. The store keeps irregular hours; don’t count on it being open late. Paved access year-round. Cell service is marginal in town, essentially none once you leave on any of the backcountry routes east or west.
Pelly River staging — last fuel for a long stretch.
