Outback Way — Gibson Desert Roadside Swale Dispersed Camp
This is the real deal: red sand and spinifex as far as you can see, dead quiet except for wind and whatever wildlife wanders through camp. Pull well off the track onto a flat swale, level your rig, and settle in. No facilities, no signage, no cell signal. Closest fuel is Warburton to the west or Docker River (Kaltukatjara) to the northeast — both hundreds of kilometres apart, so do your sums before you roll out. Fire restrictions apply during hot, dry periods; check with Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku before you leave. This stretch crosses Aboriginal land — your Remote Community Entry Permit for the APY and Ngaanyatjarraku lands must be in hand before you arrive.
Access is via the Outback Way (Great Central Road / Gary Highway corridor), unsealed and corrugated. A solid 4WD with a minimum 200-litre fuel range is non-negotiable. Road conditions vary dramatically by season — summer heat makes this route dangerous. May through September is the window.
Gibson Desert red dirt — permits required.
