Scattered camping spots along Ophir Creek about 15 miles east of Nome via back mining roads. Creek provides reliable water source requiring treatment. Sites are just pull-offs in tundra with fire rings left by previous campers. Expect mosquitoes in summer but incredible wildflower displays. Zero facilities – pack everything out.
Access via rough mining road that branches north from Nome-Teller Road around Mile 13. High-clearance recommended due to ruts and creek crossings. Popular with gold panners and hunters. Weather can change fast – have warm gear even in summer. Road impassable during spring breakup.
