Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — Harts Pass Campground
Harts Pass Campground sits at the end of one of the gnarliest paved-to-dirt drives in the North Cascades — a narrow shelf road with cliff exposure that’ll have your passenger gripping the door handle. The camp itself is small, no-frills, and dead serious about elevation. Five sites, vault toilet, no water. You’re at the trailhead for the PCT and a short drive from Slate Peak Lookout, so expect foot traffic during peak season but rarely a mob scene given the approach road’s natural filter.
Access via Forest Road 5400 out of Mazama — the final miles are single-lane with exposure and not suitable for trailers or wide rigs. Snow can close the road into July and again by October. No reservations. Cell service is nonexistent. Self-contained water is mandatory.
Highest drive-in camp in Washington.
