Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park
Morefield is the one place to sleep inside Mesa Verde. It sits in a broad, grassy canyon below the mesa top, with scrub oak and juniper between the sites and mule deer wandering through at dusk. It’s a big, developed campground with tent loops, RV sites, a hookup section, showers, laundry, a dump station and a camp store. It’s not remote, but it beats driving back to Cortez after dark. The cliff dwellings are a good drive up the mesa, so plan your days around the tour tickets.
It runs seasonally, roughly late April to mid-October, and fills fast in summer. Reserve ahead if you can. Fire rules change with conditions out here, and Four Corners fire restrictions are common in dry summers, so check the NPS page before you load up on firewood. Cell service is patchy at best. Rates, loop layout and open dates shift year to year, so verify ahead. Have a dirty day.
