McCarthy Beach State Park
This 2,566-acre state park sits on the shores of Side Lake, offering 41 campsites split between electric and non-electric options. The park features a rare sandy beach on a northern Minnesota lake, dense mixed forests, and excellent fishing for walleye and northern pike. Sites are well-spaced with good privacy, and the lake offers crystal-clear water perfect for swimming during summer months.
Access is via paved county roads, making it suitable for any rig size. The park stays busy during peak summer weekends but quiets down significantly after Labor Day. Firewood is available on-site, and the park maintains clean facilities year-round with heated restrooms during winter months.
