Manti-La Sal National Forest La Sal Mountain Loop Dispersed Area
This dispersed area stretches along a 3-mile section of the La Sal Mountain Loop Road at 8,000+ feet elevation, offering a dozen primitive sites with commanding views of Arches and Canyonlands. Sites range from small tent spots to large clearings that handle big rigs, though the winding mountain road requires careful driving. Fire restrictions typically run June through September. Nights are cold even in summer at this elevation.
The loop road is paved but narrow with steep grades and tight switchbacks — not recommended for anything over 35 feet. Popular with Moab-area overlanders seeking cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. Sites can fill on summer weekends. Snow closes the upper portion typically November through April. Stock up on water and supplies in Moab before ascending.
