Magadan — Nagayevo Bay and Sea of Okhotsk Coastal Viewpoint
Before you point the rig northeast toward Yakutsk, spend time at the waterfront overlooking Nagayevo Bay. This is where GULAG-era ships once unloaded prisoners into the Soviet Far East. The bay is deep, cold, and dramatic — flanked by tundra-covered headlands that drop straight into the Sea of Okhotsk. On clear days the water goes steel-blue and the mountains behind town pile up like broken concrete. It’s a sobering, genuinely beautiful place that puts everything ahead of you in context.
Located within Magadan city limits, easily accessible on paved roads. The waterfront area near the port has pullouts and a small monument. No fees, no permits. Weather rolls in fast off the sea — keep that in mind for the first day’s run out of town on the R504.
Where the Road of Bones meets the sea.
