Lucky Bay Campground — Cape Le Grand National Park
Lucky Bay is the famous one. The sand is blinding white, the water is a shade of blue that looks fake, and wild kangaroos lounge on the beach like they own it. Because they do. The campground sits in coastal heath just back from the bay, with Frenchman Peak and the Cape Le Grand coastline nearby for hikes. Sites are popular and fill fast over school holidays, and spring wildflower season draws crowds too. Book through the state parks booking system well ahead and verify current fees and sites. Facilities are basic, so check what’s on offer when you book.
The road in from Esperance is sealed, so any rig gets there. If you want to drive the beach, you’ll need a 4WD, low tyre pressures and a tide check. Soft sand and rising water have bogged plenty of rigs. Fire rules here are strict, so assume no open fires and bring a gas stove unless the park says otherwise. Keep food locked up and the roos at a distance. Have a dirty day.
