Lake Khantayskoye Geological Survey Base Camp
The concrete buildings and helicopter pad of this 1970s geological survey station still stand on Khantayskoye’s northeastern shore. Three weathered barracks provide wind shelter, while the old generator building offers secure gear storage. Stone fire rings dot the gravel beach where modern expeditions camp. The lake produces excellent arctic char and grayling fishing.
Reached via helicopter charter from Norilsk or extreme 4WD expedition through roadless tundra. Best accessed June through August when the plateau is ice-free. Water from the lake requires filtration. No facilities — pack everything in, pack everything out. Helicopter landing fees apply.
