Ibra Women’s Wednesday Souq — Traditional Market in the Sharqiyah Interior
Ibra is the main town of the Sharqiyah interior, and its Wednesday morning women’s souq is one of the best known traditional markets in Oman. Local women do the trading here, Bedouin and village alike. Expect dates, spices, produce and handmade and household goods, and plenty of old-school haggling. It’s no tourist show. It’s a working market in a working town, and you should treat it that way: ask before you photograph anyone, and dress modestly.
Ibra sits a good drive from Bidiyah and Mintirib, so slot it in when you’re coming off the dunes or heading out. It’s all paved, so any vehicle will do. The town also has fuel, shops and food, which makes it a decent place to stock water and supplies. The market runs early in the morning and winds down by midday. Market days and hours can change, so verify ahead. Best in the cooler months, October through April.
Have a dirty day.
