Grand Lake is the western terminus town for Rocky Mountain National Park and a practical staging hub for anyone running the Never Summer Mountains corridor. The town sits at 8,369 feet on the shore of Colorado’s largest and deepest natural lake, with Lake Granby visible to the south. You’ve got fuel, a grocery store, a hardware store, and several restaurants all within walking distance of each other. The lake itself is a genuine viewpoint — massive, cold, and backed by the Never Summer range.

Grand Lake fills up hard on summer weekends with tourist traffic; weekdays and shoulder season are dramatically easier to navigate. It’s your last guaranteed fuel and resupply before heading north into the Bowen Gulch and Grand Ditch corridor. Cell service is solid in town and drops off fast once you’re on forest roads heading north.
