Ghost Ranch Dispersed Camping

Free BLM camping along Forest Road 419 near Georgia O'Keeffe's famous Ghost Ranch, with red rock formations as your backdrop.

Scattered pullouts and flat spots along FR 419 offer free camping in classic New Mexico high desert, surrounded by the same red cliffs and mesas that inspired Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings. Sites vary from single-vehicle spots to areas that can handle multiple rigs. No facilities, but the scenery more than compensates — you’re camping in one of the most photogenic landscapes in the Southwest.

Access via Forest Road 419 from Highway 84, about 8 miles of gravel that’s suitable for most vehicles. Stay limit is 14 days, and this area sees steady use from overlanders running the Ghost Ranch trail network. Best in spring and fall when temperatures are moderate.
