Frenchglen — Frenchglen Hotel and General Store Resupply
Frenchglen is barely a dot on the map but it punches above its weight for overlanders running the Steens, Hart Mountain, or the Warner Valley rim roads. The Frenchglen Hotel — an Oregon State Parks property — has a small general store stocked with basics: snacks, canned goods, ice, and limited fuel. The hotel itself serves family-style dinners by reservation. Population is roughly 12 people, so don’t expect a Parts Plus. But if you’re low on food or need a cold drink and a conversation with a rancher, this is your stop before the big empty.
Highway 205 through Frenchglen is paved. Cell signal is spotty at best — Verizon edges out the others here. The store’s hours are limited; verify before you bank on fuel availability, especially off-season. This is not a diesel certainty stop — call ahead.
Last stop before Steens and the high desert void.
