Frances Lake Yukon Government Campground
Frances Lake is a big, cold, glacial-blue lake in the Pelly Mountains. The Yukon government campground sits on its shore, a short spur off the Campbell Highway. It’s a basic setup: outhouses, fire rings, picnic tables, and a boat launch, with firewood often supplied in season. There’s no hookup, no showers, and no cell signal. Bring your own water or filter from the lake. Fishing is the draw, and the lake has a long fur-trade history. You’re a long way from anywhere, so treat this as a proper overland basecamp.
The Campbell is a gravel road with long empty stretches, so fuel and spares planning matter. Top off in Watson Lake or Ross River, and carry a full-size spare. Mosquitoes can be savage in early summer, and the camping season is short, roughly June to September. Fees and facilities are set by Yukon Parks and change, so verify current details with the Yukon government before you roll in. Have a dirty day.
