El Aguacate Natural Springs

Water Source

These natural springs emerge from limestone bedrock at about 7,500 feet elevation, creating a series of pools perfect for water collection and cooling off after dusty mountain driving. The water runs cold year-round and locals have used it for generations — it’s clean enough to drink with basic filtration. Several concrete catchments make filling containers easy, and the largest pool is deep enough for a proper soak.

Access via a rough dirt road about 8 kilometers northeast of Ixtlán de Juárez. High-clearance recommended for the final 2 kilometers, though determined 2WD vehicles can make it in dry conditions. Busiest on weekends when families from town come to picnic, but usually empty during weekdays.
