Double Island Point Lighthouse — Headland Beacon on the Cooloola Beach Run
Double Island Point is the rocky knuckle of land where Teewah Beach ends and the Rainbow Beach side begins. The lighthouse has stood here since 1884 and is still the landmark every beach-runner steers toward. It sits inside Great Sandy National Park. You park near the point and walk up to the station. Expect wide views over the Pacific, back down the long curve of Teewah Beach, and north toward Rainbow Beach. From about June to November, humpbacks cruise past, and dolphins and turtles are regularly spotted off the headland.
You need a 4WD and a current Queensland vehicle access permit to get here, and the beach run is tide-dependent. Plan your sand time around low tide and check the tide tables and QPWS conditions before you go. Soft sand, wash-outs and creek crossings change constantly. Don’t expect to climb the tower; it’s a working navigation aid, so treat it as a lookout and a photo stop. It gets busy on weekends and school holidays, so go early. Verify access and permit details ahead.
Have a dirty day.
