Davis Station Australian Antarctic Base

Davis Station is one of three permanent Australian Antarctic Division bases on the continent, established in 1957 on the Vestfold Hills — a rare ice-free coastal zone that makes it one of the most biologically rich stretches of Antarctic land. The station runs year-round with a winter crew of around 20 and a summer population pushing 70–80. It supports glaciological, atmospheric, and biological research. If you’re arriving by ship or resupply flight coordinated through the Australian Antarctic Division, this is a legitimate logistics node for the East Antarctic coast.

Access is exclusively by AAD-coordinated icebreaker or charter flight — no independent arrival is possible. The nearest departure point is Hobart, Tasmania. All visits require prior authorization through the Australian Antarctic Division. No walk-in resupply; everything must be arranged well in advance.
