Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park Dove Lake Campground
Dove Lake Campground sits at 3,000 feet elevation in the shadow of Cradle Mountain’s jagged dolerite peaks. This compact Parks Tasmania campground holds 60 sites across grassy flats dotted with ancient King Billy pines. The famous Dove Lake Circuit boardwalk starts right from camp, offering that postcard view of Cradle Mountain reflected in dark glacial waters. Facilities include flush toilets, cold-water taps, and fire rings for designated seasons only.
Access is via sealed Cradle Mountain Road — no clearance issues but watch for wombats after dark. The campground books solid during Tasmanian summer (December-February) and autumn colors (March-April). Sites are first-come basis but fill early on weekends. Water taps are potable but taste heavily of tannins from the buttongrass plains.
