Carnegie Station — Working Pastoral Station on the Gunbarrel Highway
Carnegie Station is a working pastoral lease out in the empty country east of Wiluna. Gunbarrel Highway travellers see it as one of the very few outposts of settled life on the long haul to Warburton. It sits in red sand, mulga scrub and salt-lake country, and the track runs right through the middle of this stretch. Treat it as a landmark and a place to ask for track news. It is not a roadside stop with guaranteed services.
Everything out here is run by the people who live on the station. Don’t count on fuel, water, meals or a camp spot being there for you. Carry your own range and supplies for the whole Wiluna to Warburton run, and verify ahead before you plan around anything the station might offer. Be polite about gates, bores and stock, leave things as you found them, and stay out of the homestead area unless you’ve been invited. Expect no phone coverage. Satellite comms and a proper recovery kit are your safety net here, and the Ngaanyatjarra Lands transit permit still applies once you get east.
Have a dirty day.
