Burtville Townsite — Great Central Road Goldfields Ghost Town Bush Camp
Burtville is what’s left of an old gold-rush settlement a short run east of Laverton, the last real stop before the Great Central Road heads out through the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. There’s nothing here now but scrub, old workings and a lot of quiet. That makes it a useful first-night bush camp if you roll out of Laverton late after fuelling up. Treat it as informal roadside camping, not a managed site. There are no facilities, no water, and no bins, so carry out everything you bring in.
Fill every tank and jerry can in Laverton before you come this way. Fuel stops further east are few and far between, and prices climb. Watch for old mine shafts and workings around the townsite. Keep well clear of them, and keep kids and dogs close. Confirm current camping conditions, the exact camp locations, and the road status with Laverton visitor information or Main Roads WA before you head out. Once you cross into the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a transit permit is required, so sort that out ahead of time. Have a dirty day.
Last goldfields ghost-town camp before the desert.
