BLM Kelso Valley Dispersed Area
Remote high-desert valley at 3,200 feet elevation offering scattered camping spots across creosote-dotted flats. Sites spread across several square miles of open BLM land with mountain views in every direction. Popular with dirt bikers and off-road enthusiasts, but big enough that you can find solitude. Wind can howl through here, so secure your gear and consider the weather forecast.
Access via Kelso Valley Road (graded dirt) from Highway 58 near Mojave. Road can be washboarded but suitable for any vehicle in dry conditions. Best in fall through spring — summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F. No facilities, no shade, no cell service. Pack everything you need and pack out everything you bring.
