BLM Elephant Trees Dispersed Area
Remote desert sites scattered through a grove of rare elephant trees (Bursera microphylla) and towering barrel cacti. Sites are primitive pull-offs among the desert flora — no facilities, just raw Sonoran Desert beauty. Space for 6-8 rigs max, with soft sand pockets that can trap 2WD vehicles. Popular with desert botanists and solitude seekers. No fires allowed year-round due to vegetation sensitivity.
Access requires navigating 4 miles of sandy wash and rocky two-track from Split Mountain Road. High-clearance 4WD recommended, especially after any rain when washes become impassable. Best visited October through April when temperatures are tolerable. No water, no cell service, no shade — come prepared for full desert camping.
