Arslanbob Tourist Camp — Jalal-Abad Walnut Forest Basecamp
Arslanbob is the gateway to the Fergana Range high country, and this community-based tourist camp — operated through the local CBT (Community Based Tourism) network — sits right at the edge of town where the walnut forest begins climbing the slopes. Expect basic but real infrastructure: shared toilets, occasional running water, fire pits, and a handful of level tent and vehicle pitches backed by dense old-growth walnut and fruit trees. The vibe is low-key and genuine — families from the village often wander through, kids are everywhere, and the smell of the forest is constant. Peak season runs July through September when trekkers and overlanders converge for the walnut harvest.
Access from Jalal-Abad city is roughly 70 km on a paved then gravel road through the Kara-Unkur valley — high-clearance recommended after rain. The CBT office in the village coordinates accommodation, guides, and horse rental. Cash only, Kyrgyz som. No cell signal worth trusting above the valley floor.
Walnut forest basecamp, CBT-run and real.
