Kiamichi Mountain — Ouachita High Country Ridgeline Viewpoint

Kiamichi Mountain sits in the core of the Ouachita National Forest south of Talihina and forms a defining feature of the high country that Lonesome Pine Road navigates. The ridgeline tops out around 2,600 feet — modest by western standards but commanding for Oklahoma — with long views over unbroken forest canopy rolling south toward the Arkansas border. Access roads off the Talimena Byway corridor lead toward the mountain’s flanks via forest roads that are passable with a high-clearance rig in dry conditions. The area is a recognized black bear zone; food storage matters here.

No developed infrastructure at the summit. Forest roads in the Kiamichi zone are subject to seasonal closures after heavy rain due to clay soil conditions — check with the Choctaw Ranger District in Heavener before committing. Cell service drops to zero well before you reach the high ground.
