Green Ridge Campground — Arapaho National Recreation Area

Established Campground

Green Ridge sits on the eastern shore of Shadow Mountain Reservoir, the smaller lake in the Grand Lake chain, at about 8,400 feet. It’s a Forest Service campground with 78 sites — vault toilets, drinking water, fire rings, and a boat ramp nearby. The vibe here is quieter than Stillwater and the lake crowd is thinner, which means you can often roll in without a reservation on a shoulder-season weekday. Overlanders use it as a northern staging point for Arapaho National Forest and RMNP west side routes — the Bowen Gulch and Grand Ditch corridors are less than 10 miles north.

Access is off US-34 just south of the RMNP west entrance — paved all the way in. The campground typically opens late May and closes mid-October. Reservations open via recreation.gov and are worth having on summer weekends. No hookups. Cell service is weak but occasionally usable near the day-use area. Bring your own firewood — local wood sales are hit or miss in Grand Lake.
