Rocky Point — Skeleton Coast Shipwreck Viewpoint

Rocky Point sits roughly midway along the Skeleton Coast Park’s restricted central section, a jagged headland jutting into the cold Benguela Current. The real draw here is the juxtaposition: thousands of Cape fur seals hauled out on the rocks alongside the corroding hulks of ships that never made it past the fog. The smell hits you first, then the noise. This is raw, unapologetic Namibia — no fences, no infrastructure, just ocean, seal, and rust. Access is strictly controlled inside the park permit zone.

Visiting independently requires a valid Skeleton Coast Park permit issued from Springbokwasser Gate. The track to Rocky Point is sandy and soft in sections — airing down is not optional. Fog rolls in fast off the Atlantic and can drop visibility to near zero. No water, no fuel, no help within 100km. Go prepared or don’t go.
